Sneezeweed grows on moist sandy or gravelly soil along streambanks and lakeshores and on sandy or silty soil on floodplains. It also grows in wet prairies and at the edges of marshes and swamps in sunny or partly shady locations. It tolerates flooding. It has a distinctive winged stem and showy, yellow, flower heads.
